Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. It teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. In this course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

Everyone can play an essential role in helping those with mental health or addiction concerns. Participants must complete a two-hour, self-paced, online class before participating in a six-hour, instructor-led virtual or face-to-face training. A certificate will be available online after completion of the course.

Approximately one to two weeks before the first webinar, registrants will receive an email with further instructions on how to complete the participant prework.

The course also requires self-completion of Prework and Postwork Assignments. See the Agenda tab for the course timeline and requirements.
