- This course is designed for a general audience interested in the planning of building and infrastructure projects that use Building Information Modeling.
In architecture, engineering, construction and operations, new technologies and processes enable us to develop a more sustainable built environment. Accurate and intelligent digital models facilitate collaboration among architects, engineers, constructors, and owners. Having this information in the form of Building Information Models, or BIM, reduces the overall cost and time to deliver new buildings, helps improve workforce safety, and ultimately yields a facility that is more sustainable and easier to operate.
But despite its promise, BIM is still not implemented on many projects and the demand for employees with the unique set of skills and knowledge necessary to implement BIM continues to grow rapidly.
Led by Professor John Messner, BIM Planning for Projects will prepare you to develop, implement, and execute a BIM project execution plan with a five-step approach that includes: setting goals, identifying BIM uses, designing implementation processes, documenting information exchanges, and planning for needed infrastructure.
Dr. Messner consults with organizations around the globe and is the author of the widely-used BIM Project Execution Planning Guide. Students in this course will learn the latest techniques and strategies currently being developed for version 3.0 of this guide.
Upon successfully completing this course, participants will be issued a certificate of course completion along with a digital badge, which can be displayed on social media platforms or other venues. If a participant successfully completes all three BIM Planning Series courses, they will receive a certificate of program completion for the course series along with a program completion digital badge.
The course contains the following topics:
- 1.1: Introduction to BIM
- 1.2: Defining BIM
- 1.3: BIM Adoption
- 1.4: BIM Project Execution Planning Procedure
