One of the most important aspects of oil and gas drilling is to ensure well integrity. The process of using cement between the steel well casings and the geologic formation is necessary to support the casing, prevent fluid from leaking to the surface, and to provide isolation between water-bearing and producing zones.  Cement bond log analysis is vital to ensure well integrity isn't compromised.

Dr. Arash Dahi Taleghani, associate professor of petroleum engineering at Penn State University, will discuss this important measurement tool during TOPCORP's webinar, "Cement Bond Log and Its Interpretation", on Tuesday, May 21st from 1 to 2 PM ET.

"Properly run and interpreted, cement bond logs provide highly reliable estimates of well integrity and zone isolation in well development," states Dr. Dahi Taleghani.  He will explore cementing wells, the relationship of the cement to casings and formations, evaluating cement conditions and stages, and the impacts and mitigations of the microannulus.

Dr. Dahi Taleghani, a registered professional engineer, has served as an independent consultant for the oil and gas industry.  He is the associate editor of ASME journal of Energy Resources and Technology and has numerous publications and four patents in the field of drilling and completion. His current research is in reservoir geomechanics, hydraulic fracturing, wellbore integrity, drill bit mechanics and poroelasticity.

TOP Energy Training is an educational consortium composed of Colorado School of Mines, The Pennsylvania State University and The University of Texas at Austin. TOPCORP is our flagship program, with hundreds of regulators and policymakers completing the four-module curriculum of basic petroleum technology training. We provide training courses for professionals working in a variety of energy-related careers. TOPCORP's mission is to train regulatory and policy-making personnel involved in oil and gas development.  Our goal is to make sure that your time spent completing our courses (whether in an online environment or classroom environment) is an efficient investment in keeping you at the TOP of your game professionally.
